发布人: webmaster

Founded in May 2017 at Zhuhai Campus, the School of Marine Engineering and Technology mainly serves our country’s Belt and Road Initiative, the construction of Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area, and the Marine Power Strategy. To meet the development needs of both national and local marine economic industries, the school has formed a distinct disciplinary development chain of “fundamental theory–key technology–engineering equipment” focusing on deep sea science. Making full use of the advantages of the university’s distinct marine-related disciplines and carrying out multi-disciplinary integration, the School of Marine Engineering and Technology concentrates on the discipline of deep-sea engineering, and has become an important part as well as a key developing field in the discipline cluster of marine science in Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU).

Aiming at extending the academic frontiers and highlighting its features, the School of Marine Engineering and Technology focuses on developing the four subject categories including Marine Engineering Equipment and Technology, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Underwater Communication and Detection Technology, and Estuarine and Coastal Science and Reef Engineering under the first-level discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. It mainly carries out talent cultivation, scientific research and social services in fields including Marine Renewable Energy Utilization, High-Performance USV with Multiple Buoyancy Bodies, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Offshore Oil and Gas Exploitation Equipment and Technology, Marine Mineral Resources Exploitation Equipment and Technology, Underwater Communication and Detection Technology, Deep-Sea Fishery Equipment, and Estuarine and Coastal Science and Reef Engineering.

To develop the first-level discipline of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, the school will build various research platforms for the research and development of ocean engineering and technology, and provide the corresponding platforms for deep-sea engineering and ocean equipment. Currently, the school boasts disciplinary characteristics and traditional advantages in Estuarine and Coastal Science and Reef Engineering. It has various research platforms at national and provincial levels, including the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Research of SYSU (founded in 1964), Guangdong Coastal and Reef Engineering & Technology Research Center (founded in 2017), Guangdong Estuarine Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory (cofounded in 2010), and National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Estuarine Hydraulic Technology (cofounded in 2011).

The School of Marine Engineering and Technology is developing rapidly and in urgent need of a large number of young research fellows. To successful candidates, SYSU will offer support in scientific research and other aspects. From 2020, the new school buildings in Zhuhai campus will be delivered one after another, which will provide spacious teaching space as well as sufficient public experiment platforms and practice bases for our school. We sincerely invite outstanding young talents at home and abroad to join us!

I. Research Teams and Fields

1. Ocean Engineering Equipment and Technology

On the basis of research on equipment and key technologies of ocean engineering, the research team focuses on developing deep-sea equipment and technology and conducts research on four major fields including Offshore New Energy Equipment and Technology, High-Performance USV, Marine Resources Exploration and Exploitation Equipment and Technology, and Cross-media High-Speed UAV.

Besides, the team focuses on the research and development in fields including Tidal Current Power Equipment, Wave Power Equipment, Offshore Floating Wind Power Equipment, Offshore Integrated Energy Production and Recharge System, Deep-Water Fishery and Aquaculture Equipment and Technology, High-Performance USV with Multiple Buoyancy Bodies, Cross-media High-Speed UAV, Offshore Oil and Gas Exploitation Equipment and Technology, and Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Exploitation Equipment and Technology.

2. Autonomous Underwater Vehicle

The Research Institute of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle conducts research on System Design and Integration of Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), Dynamic Analysis and Control, Intelligent Sensing and Decision-Making, and Coordination of Multiple Unmanned Systems, which is mainly applied in marine observation, marine resources exploitation and national security.

3. Underwater Communication and Detection Technology

To meet the country’s strategic needs, the research team, on the basis of research on hydroacoustics, mainly focuses the equipment and technologies of ocean acoustic communication, navigation and positioning, submarine tiny target detection, topographic and geomorphic imaging, acoustic observation of marine environmental parameters, and multi-objective collaboration.

4. Estuarine and Coastal Science and Reef Engineering

As a traditional discipline of SYSU, the discipline of Estuarine and Coastal Science and Reef Engineering boasts a long history and dates back to 1964. It has undertaken lots of key and major projects at national levels including the 863 Program and the National Key R&D Program. Focusing on Estuarine and Coastal Science and Engineering, the research team mainly conducts research in fields including Estuarine and Coastal “Dynamics–Sedimentology–Geomorphology”, Estuarine Environment and Ecology, Nearshore Resources and Environment, Environmental Oceanography, Coastal Engineering, and Artificial Reef Shoreline Safety and Engineering Protection Technology. Considering the unique features of estuaries and coasts, such research is also integrated with research on the chemical process, biological process, geochemical process and geomorphic evolution in estuaries, so as to establish a multi-processes and multi-disciplinary integrated research system on Estuarine and Coastal Science and even extend to the “basin–estuary–shelf–reef” system.
